FRIDAY LIGHTS: CHARLES EDWARDS

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

This weeks FRIDAY LIGHTS is dedicated to Charles Edwards, a reproduction-antiques company in London, England. Their designs reflect 19th and 20th century English and French style lanterns. The pieces are authentic and classic.

I love this beautiful flower detailed chandelier and look at the tapered candle sleeves- an exquisite detail that refines the piece.

Another chandelier that caught my eye.

I love the simplicity of this chic hanging lantern.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: BoBo Intriguing Objects

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

BoBo Intriguing Objects is certainly a “one of a kind” store. The authentic and original pieces found at this retailer takes my breath away. They have mastered the trend of taking recycled objects to create innovative and fresh furniture, accessories and lighting. The Atlanta-based company specializes in seeking abandoned objects, especially high-end designer pieces and using them to produce a new BoBo object.

BoBo uses an unconventional approach to designing and the result is simply inspiring.  There is nothing better than decorating a space with pieces that are not only exquisite but genuine as well. You definitely will not be able to find these items at Pottery Barn or Crate-and-Barrel, yet BoBo’s lighting is just as affordable if not a better deal.

You may recognize some of these pieces as the company has been knocked-off for their best pieces.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: URBAN ELECTRIC CO.

Friday, March 26th, 2010

So chic and hip. Urban Electric co. is a unique lighting and design production firm based out of Charleston with a smaller firm in the ATL with a great online catalog. A printed catalog is available to members of the trade. I am amazed by the quality and creativity the company offers the very competitive, saturated lighting industry.

I found Urban Electric Co. browsing the fab design blog Elements of Style.

Hanging lanterns. Stylish and Classic.

Designs by early-adopter of kaarskoker Amanda Nisbet Design that should not go unrecognized.

I love this contemporary take on the webbed, mirrored sconce popular in the 18th century.

Special thanks to Elements of Style for sharing this company!

FRIDAY LIGHTS: COLEEN & CO.

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I came across Coleen & Company about a year ago just browsing the web.  Based in Los Angeles, they sell vintage furniture for home and garden that is so clearly salvaged from a great Southern California estate.  Each piece looks as though “if furniture could talk…”  Well edited and styled and not Hollywood Regency just vintage glam, which is why the handmade/painted Tented Tole Lanterns offered exclusively by Coleen & Company seem a bit odd.  That is until you see how a perfectly the lanterns fit in a contemporary interior- just like a perfect vintage piece. Coleen & Company also offers vintage lighting.  Both the tole lanterns and the vintage pieces pair perfectly with kaarskoker candle covers!

FRIDAY LIGHTS: BARN LIGHT ELECTRIC

Friday, March 5th, 2010

The “American Dream ” is the unspoken force behind the design inspiration of Barn Light Electric, which produces lighting the old fashion way. Barn Light Electric prides themselves on creating lights that only uses American made, high quality & commercial grade materials that represents original barn lighting style.  Don’t let the country western bent of the website fool you- this is serious style!

The Topeka Chandelier can be found in the Vintage Lighting listings.  I can only imagine the great bank from where this was salvaged!

I must add, I LOVE this Austin Scone in Polished Brass because it is such an expected finish on a vernacular fixture.  The most outstanding offering from Barn Light is the dozens of finish option.  The Finish Chart says it all!

FRIDAY LIGHTS: REMODELISTA

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I was turned onto Remodelista probably through Atlantis Home and it didn’t take me long to figure out that this site was special.  The contributing ladies have their collective fingers on the pulse that is directly connected to mine.

The site offers a “Browse Products” section that features favorite furniture, appliances, hardware, tile, etc.  No remodeling project would be complete without days, weeks, months of deliberation over the perfect lighting.  Thank goodness Remodelista has shared their favorite lighting fixtures and where to find them.  Do you see why I no longer practice as an interior designer?  So many trade secrets readily available!

For those who need to see the best of the best, this Friday Lights for you!

FRIDAY LIGHTS: REMAINS LIGHTING

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Remains Lighting has been on my radar since February 2009 when I visiting the Chelsea Harbor showroom (although Remains is a US lighting manufacturer).  Witnessing the quality of the pieces firsthand and the use of ceramic candle sleeves exclusively on each fixture cemented my enthusiasm for the line.

Recently Remains released (say it 3 times- fast) a series of lighting inspired by the late Tony Duquette, the unparalleled theatrical Hollywood interior designer.  I cannot think of any lighting manufacturer today better suited to execute such stunning reproductions.  I also cannot help myself from wanting to add a few kaarskoker details to each piece.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: MARJORIE SKOURAS

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I rediscovered Marjorie Skouras’ beautiful lighting on Tobi Fairley’s blog. Tobi is doing a 14 day count to Valentine’s Day, each day featuring a specific thing she loves.  Day 9 covered Turquoise chandeliers and featured this stunner of Marjorie’s.  I also love it in electric blue!

I called Marjorie and she called me back agreeing that there is synergy between kaarskoker and her lighting. We shall see what we can dream up.  Below are a couple of happy design marriages I can envision.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: AVID HOME

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I think I came across Avid Home on twitter. Most of the lighting is from Arteriors and Avid’s pricing is well below many other retailers.   kaarskoker candle covers look fab on most of the fixtures featured on Avid as many kkRETAILERS also offer Arteriors lighting and have replaced the covers with various kaarskoker patterns.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: BUCK HOUSE

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Buck House on New York’s Upper East Side is a carefully edited and curated shop of antiques from around the world. The Buck House lighting is offered online through 1stdibs. Spectacular and unbelievably priced, I now know why “the buck stops here.”
