My husband had an iPad. It was a gift from his office. Little did both these parties know that between a wife and a couple of littles, his gift was our property- forever. I am dreaming of an iPad cover with kaarskoker graphics so I started researching something that may fill the need while I consider taking on that project. I actually found cases with three marble papers very similar to kaarskoker candle cover styles (what are the chances?). The scale of these is wrong, the colors also need improvement and the the actual design of the case, well, you get it, I still need to take matters into my own hands. What are your favorite kkSTYLES for an iPad cover?

We get many random calls into the studio. Some benign, some give a chuckle and rarely a call will be a mistake that turns fortunate. Recently, a woman found Marjorie Skouras’ chandeliers on kkBLOG. She inquired about how to purchase so I pulled up the MS website and discovered that she had collaborated with Currey & Co.! This collaboration is so successful. Take a look at my favorites from the collection. No surprise that I am more of a fan of the hard-wired pieces than the portable lighting.

At our household, it seems a year cannot pass without a major home improvement. This year it is a new entry to our property and a new deck. We share a driveway with our neighbors so there is always confusion as to where to enter, which house is ours and the cops get lost (there is a story there!). This is no small deal and I feel one quick way to demarcate the entrance and light the way are light posts. Perhaps, I am inspired by Chris Burden’s Urban Light installation at LACMA.

I am on the hunt and scouring vintage sources such as Vintage & Modern, traditional sources such as Authentic Designs and dreamy sources such Urban Electric Co. Below are some of the contenders.

kkINSPIRATION: THE CHATEAU

“The Chateau” is how residents and guests affectionately refer to The Chateau Marmont where I was one of the latter this weekend. Inspiration was always in sight and I rarely left its peaceful environs for Sunset Boulevard below. Of course, the lighting was perfectly dramatic and grandly scaled. From inverted tulip-shaped shades for table lamps to floor lamps with 36″ diameter shades to wrought-iron lanterns and sconces that seemed to crawl the walls, the lighting was just the beginning.

It is my favorite time of year! Costumes for the kids, the big people and my table, which always includes the kaarskoker kkCANDLESTICK. I do not include plastic, flashing lights or other “kid-friendly” decorative accessories. Not my style.

Act your age. Halloween is not child’s play. Decorate accordingly.

Seattle is a small town. Really small. As an example, I know Leah, Proprietor of Revival Home & Garden. She retails kaarskoker. I know Cassandra, Founder & Editor of coco+kelley. She was an early advocate of kaarskoker. Cassandra is now Market Editor of Rue Magazine. Rue featured Leah’s home in their current Anniversary issue. Above Leah’s kitchen dining nook hangs a red lantern adorned with kkFRETWORK in Blue. I love this small town.

I have a Monday night ritual that involves catching up on the stack of magazines by my bedside. Rather than reaching to the bottom of the pile this week, straight from the top I picked up Sunday’s New York Times Design Magazine. (T Magazine). Inside the pages was the typical inspiration to get me excited for the week (with rain already abundant in Seattle I need loads of help on this). Also inside was a colorful take on the traditional Japanese style that inspired kaarskoker candle covers kkDECO, which is part of the kk COLLECTOR SERIES. From a Mitchell+Gold ad to the Mogle pouf by Missoni Home, the geo motif made popular by David Hicks last century endures.
