NEW FEATURE: FIXTURES FOR <$200!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

We are firmly in a depression but rather than totally refrain- decorate on a dime!  kaarskoker makes that easy IF you have the right chandelier, sconce or lamp to dress.  kaarskoker is all you need to make a statement and the light fixture can be basic even inexpensive or cheap.  Trust me, after customizing it with kk it’ll look like a million bucks.  To honor thrifty alternatives, I will feature a new retailer each week with  kaarskoker-ready fixtures for under $200.  This week’s retailer is Ballard Designs.

Love this sweet ‘Contessa Chandelier’ from Ballard Designs- $129, 15″H x 13 1/2″Diam.  For a girl’s bedroom, pair it with Lovely Cane.  For a powder room, try Classic CaneGray Solid makes for a great Old World meets the New Dutch look.

Ballard Designs’ classic, single-arm Talia Sconce (7 3/4″H x 5 1/4″W x 5″D) is available in either antique bronze or cream for $49! The possibilities for customizing with kaarskoker candle covers are endless.  For the antique bronze, accent kaarskoker candle covers in Orchid Solid bold statement; Midnight Coral for a playful fixture; or Black & White Houndstooth for a serious effect. HINT: Omit the shade and use a great bulb (I will dedicate a future blog post to choosing the perfect bulb).

The matching Talia Chandelier (25″H x 25″Diam.) also in antique broze or cream has a great sculptural quality – especially the cream- that is easily accented with kaarskoker candle sleeves.  The chandelier is more contemporary and clean without the shades.  Priced right at $169.

Ballard Designs’ Petite Claire Chandelier (18″H x 18 1/2″W) with cut crystal and vines can be sourced from many manufacturers but at $149 this is the least expensive version I have found. I placed this in a client’s entry hall and removed those TERRIBLE faux drip sleeves with Red & Gold Clover (on the Estruscan Gold) kaarskoker.  Simply perfect!

SPRING GLEAMING!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

As of today, spring is officially here!  To welcome the occasion, some people complete 108 sun salutations (like me at 6am this morning) while others clean closets.  The equally as motivated yet less practical think pink!  This year kaarsKoker offers a totally FRESH seasonal decor solution.  kkRETAILER Mary Davis Lighting in La Conner, WA submitted these inspirational photographs of her use of kaarsKoker to welcome the spring season and the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.  The decorative candle covers bring new life to an Italian tole chandelier and painted electric candle.

DECORATE WITH GREEN- IT’S REAL SIMPLE

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I know the April issue of Real Simple has reached subscribers. I do not subscribe (GASP) because I barely have time to read instructions and recipes. From my correspondence with the editor (the awesome Kelley Carter!), it seems kaarsKoker is featured in an article that focuses on decorating with the color green. The Jade & Silver Y-Knot and True Peacock are in the write-up. I thought I would take this opportunity to finally come clean about my favorite 1 or 2 (a mother cannot always pick just 1 favorite) kaarsKoker in each color of the rainbow (meaning no gray, black, gold, silver).
