CHOOSING THE RIGHT LIGHT BULB
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009The devil is most certainly in the details. If customizing your chandeliers, sconces and lamps with kaarskoker candle sleeves wasn’t perfection enough, further trick them out with the ideal decorative light bulb. Take off the shades and show off your ability to find a fancy flame.
Below are my favorite candelabra light bulbs and all are available at 1000bulbs. While there are many other options not pictured, I feel these are classic for any fixture. Click on the image of the bulb to visit the 1000bulbs website and review wattage options.
This small flame-tip bulb comes in 7-to 15-watt options and emphasizes the slender appearance of the ‘candle’. This bulb is ideal for fixtures with many arms where too many 40 watt bulbs will make the chandelier appear as though it is ready for take off!
I always choose a 40-watt bulb over a 60 watt. The diameter of the bulb is more proportional to the diameter of a candelabra sleeve. Also, 60 watts- while great for bathroom sconces- can blind a person so the fixtures becomes non-existent. Typically a 6-arm chandelier with 40-watt bulbs should be on a dimmer switch. This is your standard pick for a bulb choice.
I love these little gems. 1″ circular bulbs that are playful on just the right fixture. This is a great pic for kids’ bedrooms or nursery. These are available in 25- to 40-watt options. These bulbs are also more contemporary and may work better on certain modern fixtures.

The globe light bulb reminds me of a Christmas tree ornament. This is a simple decoration for the holidays.
I have these silver-tip globe bulbs in my entry hall. There is a ceiling light that emits most of the necessary task light so I could have fun with my spider-web, mirrored wall sconces. The silver complement the mirror and provides an edgy look to a classic fixture!
