kkSTYLE: AMETHYST

Friday, September 11th, 2009

You all must have picked up on my love of bring colors especially as an accent as kaarskoker has bold colors sprinkled throughout its palette. For the past year, the sleeve that adorns my library sconces is Orchid Solid.  In the September issue of Elle Decor, the TREND ALERT featured Amethyst.  I had an EUREKA moment.  My beloved ORCHID is what the world knows and loves as amethyst and a name change was inspired. I have always looked at kaarskoker as the jewels that adorn a light fixture so it is only fitting that their names reflect this quality.

Note: kaarskoker has also changed the names of sage, Hanukkah Cane, and forest green to CELADON, ELECTRIC CANE and HUNTER GREEN, respectively.  Celadon was used to describe the original sage by Mrs. Jamie Young Jeter of The Jamie Young Company.  With 13 years of lighting design and beautiful fixtures under her belt, I thought best to use a descriptor as the color appears through her wise eyes. The hunter green sleeve is so perfectly paired with plaids that it needed a name that invoked nostalgia of country clubs and libraries.

SHADES OF LIGHT FALL CATALOG COUP

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

To be included in the Shades of Light fall lighting catalog is more difficult than you might imagine. While kaarskoker has been on the website since the beginning of the year, inclusion in the catalog’s prime, scarce real estate is exclusive and reserved for best-sellers. I got word last month that kaarskoker candle covers were in.  Not only were the sleeves pictured but fixtures adorned and bettered with the sleeves were also featured.  The web orders from Shades of Light are HEAVY on the polka dots, which I think has something to do with the before and after highlighted in an earlier blog post.  Both afters made the catalog!  Again, another BIG thanks to Amanda Wainscott, the soon-to-be former buyer of Shades of Light. (What will they and kaarskoker do without her insight into the synergies of the all the lines offered?)

NEED I SAY MORE?

I described in PLASTIC IS NOT POSH seeing plastic candles sleeves on a very expensive Baccarat chandelier and absolutely knowing the market needed a better solution.  On my recent trip to Southern California to visit Nordstrom stores, I was stopped in my tracks as I walked through South Coast Plaza.  The Baccarat stores had several elaborate light fixtures- all with plastic sleeves.  Now you all can see for yourself why I was compelled to offer better alternatives for this very specific lighting accessory. Long Live kaarskoker! Those bulbs could use some help too.
