kkTIP: LIGHTING LAYERS

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Layers the secret to staying fashionable and warm as the weather turns.  Layering lighting in a room is also vital to control the look and feel a room emits.  Lighting by Lux dedicated a post on “light layering,” which uses four main categories of lighting: ambient light, task light, accent light and decorative light. Each category is unique, setting the tone for any occasion. I recently found these interiors of a home in Sydney on Desire to Inspire and thought the layered lighting was a perfect as a (layered) cake. The table lamp on the lanai is brilliant for outdoor reading (or sundowners).  The lit art creates decorative element as the other light sources are dimmed and accentuates the homeowners collections. Although there are recessed ceiling lights, you can never have enough lamps to remove the shodows from the corners of a room.

SUNDAY TABLE: SOMETHING OLD, NEW

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Last week I received a lovely email alerting me to a blog post featuring kaarskoker candle holdersThe Zhush (je + oosh) had recently purchased the candlesticks and got into the spirit of decorating by mixing her vintage glass and brass with the stylish colors and patterns of kaarskoker. Similar to adding great wallpaper to a wonderful but spare powder room, the sleeves add instant interest and style.

FRIDAY LIGHTS: MYSTERY PENDANT

Friday, November 13th, 2009

I was recently introduced to Peridot, a home decor shoppe in Vancouver B.C., by style/SWOON.  As always, I checked out the lighting collection and was taken by this fabulous resin pendant.  I cannot find the manufacturer so if you know, please comment.

P.S. My only edit is the addition of a silk chain cover.  Perhaps this deep red Dupioni silk chain cover with the striking turquoise. style….and SWOON.

Update: Kristin solved the mystery via Facebook! Shine Lighting is responsible for this and other unique fixtures.

kkLOVE: COMMENTS PLEASE

Monday, November 9th, 2009

kaarskoker was thrilled to work with the talented and lovely Cassandra of coco+kelley to offer a giveaway of kkCANDLESTICKS.  The lucky winner of Leeds, Alabama chose kkCONE in Gold & Silver 6″.  A versatile sleeve pattern that works all year and with its metallic detailing complements holiday decor as well.  I wanted to share just some of the 81 comments coco+kelley readers made regarding kaarskoker sleeves both as a lighting accessory and paired with the innovative kkCANDLESTICK. The buzz is so exciting!

* The basket pattern in blue gold reminded me of my childhood as soon as I saw it. My family lived in the lower level of a duplex, and above lived an old woman. Her taste was very 60’s and dated, but I loved it! I’d always try to catch a glimpse of her turquoise and lime walls.

* These candleholders are great. I can’t believe how many patterns they come in, definitely a good hostess gift! My favorite is the “Fretwork” pattern in chocolate brown.

* I have wanted the coral design in turquoise/gray! My dining room is gray and my kitchen has turquoise accents, so I would love these to pull the turquoise in.

* I’ve been lusting after a pair of these for months now! I would love the kkCONE in gold/silver.

* I love the gold silver cone – it is so fall inspired and would go great in my dining room!

* I love the versatility of these, especially for people (like me) who keep the basics, well basic.  My fave (for this moment) is the aPa Marble. Although I am a bit obsessed with the solids too – in every color!!

* What a fab idea! I really like the houndstooth – I am SO in love with that pattern right now. I also like the pink/brown Cone pattern too, though. Hmm. Ah, they’re both swoon-worthy.

* Very difficult to narrow it to just one favorite Candle Sleeve; I’ll go with the kkcoral-brown for the dining room. Love the versatility of these sleeves.

* The KKFretwork is calling my name, I love all the colors and can already think of several different ways to use these this holiday season!

* Almost definitely the yellow coral sleeve – just a beautiful fresh lemon yellow!

* I love the orange brown cone! and the chartreuse silver clover! These candlesticks are gorgeous…

* Wow, I love those candle sleeves. Ingenious! I love the chartreuse/silver clover best. I want to design a whole room around it.

* The Mallard’s Eye sleeves are definitely my favorite. Such a fantastic idea!

* These sleeves are a stroke of design genius! I love when designers can make everyday objects (like candlesticks) new and exciting! I would absolutely *LOVE* to have the true peacock pattern. Such an easy, eccentric flair of fun! It is just the burst of color my mantel has been begging for.

* I’m lovin’ on the blue-green marble/feather pattern – with silver sticks. HOT!

FRIDAY LIGHTS: TOWER LIGHTING

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Tower Lighting of Chicago imports fine lighting from Europe and, in particular, elegant designs from Italy. The ironwork is fantastic as are the sculptural, stylized forms, which speak to “The artistry of Italian illumination.”  kaarskoker candle covers would pair beautifully with any of these.  The kkMARBLE in LIBRARY FEATHER would look stunningly appropriate with the dark iron.  I would love to see kkFRETWORK in RED with the polished brass piece as the classic geometry of the Fretwork would soften the effect of this contemporary fixture.

SUNDAY TABLE: SAVORY

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

This weeks kaarskoker Sunday Table inspiration once again is thanks to coco+kelley’s ‘Table for Two’ series. Cassandra designed a tabletop that she calls “Bohemian Sparkle,” and I couldn’t think of a better word to describe it.  She used warm, fall colors and kkCONE in orange and brown. Anyone would enjoy a delicious, savory meal over this chic set-up. Pumpkin pie & shut my mouth!
